Leadership Day 2016 was the start to what is sure to be a great year for Rutgers Hillel. Although exhausting, the Hillel Board spent all day planning future events and discussing the exciting year to come. With a board of 18 members, there can be many differing opinions. However, Leadership Day proved that our 2016-17 board has a tight bond that will be impossible to break!  A main topic of conversation throughout the day was the brand new and HUGE Hillel building that is in the works. It is located on 70 College Ave. Following Leadership Day a tour of the new building was given by Andrew Getraer, Hillel’s Executive Director, to all interested board members. It was amazing to be inside what will soon be the new Rutgers Hillel building! The space is enormous, with a kosher café, expansive dining room for Shabbat dinners, a student lounge, and so much more to offer the students at RU. Taking the tour made me so much more excited for the building to open to the public.

Even before the new Rutgers Hillel building opens, our Board has put together a myriad of events for the coming weeks and months. During Leadership Day we discussed the logistics and materials needed to coordinate events that can run smoothly, soundly, and successfully. Some programs we have planned include our superb Shabbat dinner every Friday night, a new class called Meditation Station every Friday at Noon at Hillel, and Chanukah Ball on Saturday December 10th! During this portion of Leadership Day , we carved out some time to prepare for the Hillel Opening BBQ that took place this past Sunday on the parking lot adjacent to the new building. In light of the thorough preparation, the event went off without a hitch! Over 450 students attended, ate, schmoozed, and signed up for various Hillel committees and programs.

The Hillel Board will continue to plan and run events just like the BBQ – fun, energetic, and attended by eager individuals just like you! Leadership Day showed us that collaboration leads to success! Stay tuned for upcoming events at Rutgers Hillel; it will be a great year!
