Highland Park Kadima Advisor Job Description 2024-2025
All Temple security and health precautions and procedures must be observed.

1. Run and lead two Highland Park Chapter Kadima meetings each month, from Sept. 1 to June
30. A calendar of meeting dates must be coordinated with the Temple office as early in the
program year as possible. Any changes in meeting dates must be coordinated with the office as
well.
2. Organize, publicize, and chaperone inter-chapter events. When needed, arrange transportation
for such events by either carpool or shared bus.
3. Use emails, text messages, Instagram (or other social media platforms), and Shabbat morning
messages to ensure that all possible teens and their parents are aware of meetings and events.
Shabbat messages must be sent by email to Beth Spurr by early Thursday morning, prior to
the Shabbat you want the announcement to be made. The announcement will also be placed
in the Friday e-letter. All meeting and event fliers must be sent to Beth Spurr or Linda
Tondow at least three weeks prior to the meeting/event so they can be placed on the Temple
Website.
4. Chapter meetings should run for approximately 60 – 90 minutes. If transportation is involved, times may be changed to accommodate program. The usual time is 7:30 – 9. Any and all HPCT-CAE Covid 19 and security precautions must be observed. Room set-ups and needs must be emailed to Beth Spurr a week prior to the meeting. Custodial support will not be available and the meeting room, restrooms and other space used must be left in the same condition as prior to the meeting.
5. As advisor, you will be expected to publicize age-appropriate Temple programs to the Kadima
members and urge them to attend. You do not need to attend.
6. You will have a budget to work within to pay for expenses of the meetings. All receipts should
be submitted to Linda Tondow for reimbursement, along with a record of the expenses and the
corresponding meetings. Any very large expense should be cleared by the Temple’s Youth
Chairperson. Please make an effort to NOT plan too many meetings that require Kadimanicks to
lay out additional funds.
7. All meetings must have a purpose. Meetings must vary in theme, for example, social, athletic,
religious, educational, or cultural topics. No meeting should be repeated during the year in its
exact form. (Eating food is NOT a meeting. It is a snack; a piece of the whole.)
8. A regular chapter meeting night does not exist. *Wednesday evenings are not open for IN
HOUSE meetings, but can be used for trips or inter-chapter meetings at another shul. Excluding
Shabbat, all other nights are open. However, you COULD have an afternoon Shabbat meeting at
the shul if the situation presents itself.
9. Attendance records should be maintained for each meeting and forwarded to the
Executive Director following each meeting. Once a month, a VERY INFORMAL emailed
report on chapter business, attendance, etc needs to be sent to the Temple’s Youth
Chairperson and Youth Engagement Coordinator. This is a very informal “report”; it is

10. All Temple member middle school age youth are automatically members of Kadima.
However, it is the responsibility of the advisor (together with the youth chairperson and Youth
Engagement Coordinator to keep a full list of all temple youth and to collect applications and fees
from non-Temple members.
11. By August, you must have a tentative calendar for September through December, and by
December, from January through June. After Temple approval, these calendars must be sent to
the Temple youth and their parents in August and December.
12. The salary for the Kadima advisor position is $3200 from September 1 – June 30. Paychecks
are distributed every other week.
13. It is HPCT-CAE policy to perform background checks on personnel prior to being employed.
This is a name check only, performed through the NJ Division of State Police. If we don’t have
your background check on file you will be asked to sign a form granting HPCT-CAE permission
for the background check. You will also need to submit the names and contact information of
two non-relative references.
14. It is HPCT-CAE policy that staff have received COVID-19 vaccination. Please provide the

Songleader/Jewish Music Teacher in Northern NJ

Tkiya is looking for an educator to lead preschool music classes in Westfield two mornings per week, family Shabbat programming on Saturday mornings, and High Holiday family services as well. Once we find the right candidate and confirm availability, there is lots of room to add more to this role.

Tkiya provides a lot of training and structure, so you do not need a lot of experience for this role, but rather an engaging personality and eagerness to learn. You must have some basic guitar or ukulele skills.

Tkiya creates Jewish music experiences to help people of all ages find their unique connection to Jewish culture and connection. We work primarily with families and children ages 0-5 as well as school age children, senior citizens, and more. We partner with more than 80 communities across the country including synagogues, JCCs, PJ Library, and other organizations.
