Rutgers Hillel brings the Shabbat experience to another level. Join our table, kick back, relax, and feel at home with Rutgers Hillel. From our home-made challah, to our wine and delicious dinners, be a part of our family!
Shabbat is the focal point of Jewish life on campus where students join together to gain a welcoming sense of Jewish community. Hundreds of students come together every Friday evening for a delicious kosher Shabbat meal – free for all students — in our beautiful Tanzman Dining Room.
This defines the Shabbat program at Rutgers Hillel – our strongest, most attended student program, averaging 300 students each week. The Shabbat experience has a way of connecting Jewish students on campus, offering a sense of community; expression of Jewish values; and an outlet for independent, interactive exploration of Jewish practice across a diverse, vibrant spectrum.
Our goal for Hillel’s Shabbat program is to provide varying opportunities to engage with, explore and celebrate Shabbat together as a campus family. We offer student-led services that are optional and open to all. Immediately following services, all students are invited to join us for a gourmet kosher dinner. Each week, a student group of Rutgers Hillel “hosts” Shabbat – announcing their upcoming events, serving dinner to student attendees and preparing a Friday Night Learning opportunity for students after dinner.
