Day Without Hate

“A Day Without Hate” is a non-profit community service program, which is directed by Rutgers Hillel. The event began in 1997 in response to the assassination of Israeli Prime Minister, Yizhak Rabin, and has grown from this original idea into an annual event that unites Rutgers faculty, staff, local businesses, and student organizations to make a statement that we care about our social environment. Our expectation is to draw from this experience and help to impact the future. A Day Without Hate took place on Thursday, October 30 this past year.

This event included a series of activities. This year we had Tables set up in all dining halls and student centers where people stopped to pledge. By signing the pledge, students, faculty, staff, and local residents are encouraged to spend an entire day where they consider their words, actions, and their effects. We also distributed flyers with encouragement for acts of kindness. A Blood Drive was held on campus. The day culminated with a motivating rally featuring an interfaith service and an a cappella concert.
